Once upon a
time, long, long ago, in a far off kingdom, there lived two princesses with their
father, King Thomas. The younger princess, Jill, had long, shiny brown hair
while Jane, the older one, had the prettiest curly, red hair in all the land.
Many people came to see the princesses on Sundays when they had nothing to do
but watch as the princesses chatted and visited with the kingdom. The
princesses were lovely and kind to anyone they met but they shared a dark
secret: King Thomas locked them in a tower at night, forbidding them from
consuming food. Jane wanted more than anything to please the King so she would
brush her hair in the mirror every night, hoping that in the morning, the King
would see what beautiful, tangle-free hair she had, and that maybe he might let
her stay in the actual castle instead of the tower. Jill on the other hand,
couldn’t care less about pleasing their father. She tried to talk Jane out of
brushing her hair each night and to come play a game with her instead, but she
refused. “I must brush my hair so father will see it in the morning and be
proud of me, Jill! Don’t you understand that?” she would say.
Jill did not
understand and grew annoyed by her obsessive desire to please their father. So
one day, while they were dusting the mahogany table in the castle’s dining
room, she stole Jane’s hairbrush from their tower, casting it out the window,
and into the ocean that crashed below her. That night, Jane couldn’t find her
brush and became so focused on brushing her hair that she started using her
fingers instead. This angered Jane more than anything, until she snapped at and
chopped all her own hair off with some nearby scissors. The next morning, their
father was not pleased. He was instead, pleased with Jill for cleaning the
castle the day before. Jill was now their father’s new favorite leaving Jane to
wallow in self-pity that her hair was gone and their father didn’t view her the
same way anymore. At least Jane didn’t have to worry about brushing her hair
anymore, until she realized she could polish her bald head every night instead.
This made Jane very happy and the cycle continued. And they all lived happily
ever after.
I like the irony and plot twist of your story!
