“This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can
support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by
playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just
released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is
about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and
thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This
is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create,
just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their
field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on
his or her songs” – Taylor Swift (Tumblr.com).
But wait… There’s a happy ending too! -- What’s really awesome about this story is that Apple listened, and personally called Taylor to tell her that they would be paying artists, producers, etc., out-of-pocket during the free trail periods. It says a lot about Taylor that she took a stand on something that would not even really affect her… but she did it because she believes it’s right. It also says a lot about Apple, for addressing and acting upon the concern.

I also wrote about this! It made very happy, but then I became skeptical about it possibly being a publicity stunt. I love T Swift, but I wonder if Apple strategically used her to promote Apple Music.
ReplyDeleteI was really indifferent upon this matter as well, but your post actually enlightened me on the situation! It's really awesome to see an artist stand up against a corporate giant for a good cause.
