About me

My name is Walter Cajas, I was born in Guatemala, Central America. My parents and I moved to New York when I was 13 years old. Resided in New York from 1986 to 2007. Graduated High School in 1992. Due to personal reasons I had to let go school for 8 years. Came back and acquired a one year certificate in Graphic Design in 2000. After a few months I was blessed with a job as a graphic designer in the third biggest beer distributors in the country, Manhattan Beer Distributors. This is where I started my career as a graphic designer. In 2007 I was blessed with a Job offer by JCPenney Headquarters as a Graphic Design Specialist. I obviously took the offer and moved to Texas in February of that year. I have been working at JCPenney since then. Got promoted two years ago to Visual Retailing Senior Specialist.

When I moved to Texas I wanted to continue my education and went ahead to transfer my credits to Collin County Community College and to my surprise my credits were not accepted. This didn't stop me from moving towards my goal. I had to start from scratch again. I finally received my Associates from Collin County Community College in the Summer of 2013 and have continued my education at UTD since then. I have accumulated 15 credits towards my Bachelors degree in Emerging Media and Communication in the last two semesters and my ultimate goal is a PHD in this exiting field.

I try to take advantage of the media as much as possible in order to get to where I want to be. I feel the Internet is a treasure of information and everything you need to know is mostly available for free. I love this aspect of the media. However I dislike how some people do not take advantage of this tools for a good cause, but rather to destroy and do harm.

I don't know if I have a favorite show, but I do have a favorite sport event I watch on TV and that is the World Cup Soccer which takes place every four years. I have been watching this event since 1982 and haven't missed one yet. I love commercials.

I am a creative and visual individual and consider that shapes, colors and photography are a big part of my life, this is why I used to spent every weekend at the Metropolitan Museum of Art sketching dresses out of famous paintings. I have design three Book covers for a famous Book writer here in Texas Dallas. My hobby has been photography and I guess this opens the door to anyone who would love to know more about me.

Walter Cajas

  1. Wow, I have to say your background in the field is already quite impressive, and you are such a trooper! There are a lot of people who would have let not having any of their credits transfer get in their way, but you must have some great will power to work through it and keep going. Wishing you the best on your journey to a PHD!

  2. Walter! I hope you are continuing to expand on the App we started. I still think it will have a lot of momentum! You are well on your way now in achieving your goals. I have had the privilege of sharing life stories with you and I have no doubt that your dreams will come true. When it comes to people abusing media, my take on it is that there is something to be learned from all behavior. I am not advocating technical abuse or any for that matter however in order to find the light sometimes we have to walk through the shadows, Becoming Dr. Cajas! Your next self portrait series!

  3. Water, you have done an excellent job in maintaining yourself busy, one of the thing I can relate with you is that I am also from another country. One of the challenges I faced when I wanted to continue my education after high school is were to begin. I am sure you were frustrated when your credits did not transfer, this however wasn't an obstacle for you, great job and I know you will reach your ultimate goal.

  4. What a story! I am so interested in how you finally made it to Texas after all the places you have lived. Continuing your education can be hard and I had many issues with transferring from Collin but UTD is worth it!
