Blog Post #1: How much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice ;)

Hi there! My name is Hannah. I'm 24 years old and an EMAC major at UTD. I was born in Dallas and other than venturing to Texas State University in San Marcos for a bit, I stuck around. I'm an only child, and I feel like it's worth mentioning because it has contributed to a lot of who I am. Not in a bad way (I hope), but in the sense that I feel like it has given me the opportunity to develop a creative mind, a special place in my heart for my friends, and a few other unique (nice word for weird) qualities.

I love animals, pretty cliche, but I really do. I have had pretty much every kind of pet, and I am a total cat lady at heart. If my wallet was as big as my love for cats, well, let's just say there's probably a good reason it isn't. I love adventures, exploring new places, meeting new people, it's so exhilarating. In addition to being a student here at UTD, I am a full-time nanny, for two different families. In one family I nanny for, there are two girls that are 11 and 13 years old. I have been with them since the girls were seven and nine, and at this point, I pretty much consider them family. I just recently started nannying for the other family, who have an eight-month-old, a three-year-old, and a six-year-old. They are a handful, but they are pretty precious.

Something else about me, I love to sing. I play a little piano as well, and your basic chords on the guitar, but singing is a passion of mine. I've done a couple shows here and there, but I just wish I had more time to do more. I use a lot of Sound Cloud to post my songs (www.SoundCloud.com/HannahMarieJones), as well as explore other music. My major involves a lot of media (Emerging media and communication), so I've been exploring a lot of media since I started here last fall. I will admit that I tend to avoid news media, as I feel like much of it is so corrupt. Obviously that's not the best way to handle it, as I do want to be informed; so I'm hoping that this class can help me learn to scope out the right stuff.

From what I have read so far, everyone seems pretty great, so I look forward to learning with you all!

  1. Hi Hannah!

If you mentioned that you loved singing in last semester in our class together, I completely missed that talented detail about you! I listened to your songs. If I had;t met you already I would not have been able to match your two personas. I love that though. Sweet surprises are my favorite treats! I have to say you have a smooth, cool breezy voice. I'm happy that this class afforded me the opportunity to learn about this creative, talented aspect of your identity. Your choice in lyrics and musical dynamics provides a brighter insight into your world! Thank you for sharing Hannah! Your beauty shines inside and out ! I can totally see one of your song in the sound track of Reign.
