Here’s wishing everyone a productive and happy summer! My name is Nancy Bouton. I am an EMAC major and an employee of UTD. The campus may as well be my home, I spend so much time here and enjoy it. My studies initiated in linguistics, particularly the study of foreign languages and culture. During my studies, I took several photography courses and fell in love with that too. I currently seek to merge the two passions somehow with my current studies.
I am a very curious person. I consume media to satisfy my urges to seek and understand life. My artistic and cultural background fuels this fire. Life is spoken all around us in countless avenues of media. My pursuit of these avenues starts with the road that leads to film, then photography and design. The social psychological elements of media and its influences are incredibly intriguing to me. I am often teased for watching a film many times! The questions I ask myself when watching a film are, “How do the characters in the film relate to each other?”, “Why did the producer use the particular style, color, angles, music, location for the film?”, “What intrigued the producer, personally, about the script so much that he/she chose to make a movie of it?” These are just a few of the questions, I ask myself. I wonder to what end media affects its viewers and how it plays a part in the life one lives. What value it gives and for how long?
My likes; people are amazing! Everyone intrigues me. As an aspiring photographer, I try to find the uniqueness, and sometimes the commonalities of an individual in comparison to me and others. I feel that everyone gives off an individual signal of energy and I seek to translate it to into a photograph, through my lens; the result being a form of beauty!
My dislikes, running out of time, and diseases.
My favorite shows are several. I loved House! I currently watch Vikings, Allegiance, House of Cards, Empire, Orphan Black, Game of Thrones and Reign. I don’t possibly have he time to watch all of them so I am very thankful for the invention of the DVR!
I am excited to know each of you, if even through your writings. What color is your energy?
Happy summer everyone!
Just from this post alone, you seem like such a bubbly person. What position do you hold on campus if you don't mind me asking? And my energy or aura color is green, which makes since considering I am pagan.
ReplyDeleteHi Holly, I am also graduating in the Spring! I work for the Jindal School of Management.I support Program Directors and about 25 professors Thank you for your comment!. Green is an amazing color! It's the color of peace. It has the energy to soothe, calm and relax. This is the meaning of green on the spiritual side that is. I look forward to sharing this summer with you!
DeleteSo sorry Whitney, I'm\'m blushing! Believe it or not, I do know a Holly Worrell and I must have being thinking of her when I wrote you .
DeleteHi Nancy, it is a pleasure being with you in the same class this semester again. I totally can identify with you keeping in mind how much I love photography and how I perceive everyone in a unique way as well. Looking forward to working with you this summer semester! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! See you Thursday!
DeleteHi, you seem to have a unique perspective on film, photography, and design. I am sure you have amazing photos. Hopefully you might be able to share those with us later in the semester. Good luck with you future goals.
ReplyDeleteHi Marco! Love your name! I just finished watching the series Marco Polo. The cinematography was riveting. I am also taking a photography course this semester to keep up with the digital changes! Practice makes perfect! Would anyone like to be my model? Would you? Then the amazing photographs i can share will be of YOU!
DeleteThank you, I honestly don't think I qualify for a model, but maybe I'll give it a try when I'am not too busy!
DeleteI think it is very interesting that you look at the media not only from the consumer side but also the creator's side. My roommate is a usability researcher/designer and a lot of his work goes into not just the utility of the website but how its appearance attracts certain consumers.
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI love photography. It's one of my hobbies. I try to capture moments. That's what I love... not having people pose, but just be themselves.
Media is supposed to be questioned. We can't just watch passively. I mean, we can, and we do because it's enjoyable, but learning that there's more to media means we are never going to be truly a passive viewer again.
Hi Professor Johnson,
DeletePassive..I wonder if I have a passive element to my character.....even when I dream , I am in the middle of some epic film! I suppose I am passive when I am exhausted. :). Loved the first episode of Sherlock!! How did I miss that?! I need to subscribe to BBC. I wonder what else we are missing around the world! I love Bollywood films too! I haven't touched the subject of the musical soundtracks given to films yet but they are paramount to completing the package. To be continued......
Hi Nancy,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your post. I'm also a photographer, you should send a link to your work (if you have one). You seem like a very creative person with a free spirit. What are some films you've watched time and time again? I'm guilty of doing the same.
Hi Micaela Stein, another beautiful name that rolls so elegantly off the tongue! I am proud to say that I watch many films over and over again! I even have a "creative idea and photography" notebook by my side to notate camera angles, color scheme transitions and other cinematic strategies that are used to capture the film's story.
ReplyDeleteBlade Runner,
Pride and Prejudice ( Keira Knightley)
Miami Vice ( Collin Farrell, Jamie Foxx) Michael Mann
Man on Fire
Sophie's Choice
Painted Veil
are the ones that come to mind. Each time I watch, I watch for different details. It baffles my husband for sure! Although ....I do see him out of the corner of my eye captivated by some of the scenes!
