Blog Post #1 - About Me

Hello everyone J

My name is Leah. I am 22 and I am an EMAC student at UTD. I will be graduating next spring! I was born and raised in Rochester Minnesota. I started my college education at Winona State University but after a year I decided to take a break and work for a while. Two years ago I moved to Dallas to get a fresh start and get back into school. I went to Collin County Community College for a year and now I have been at UTD for a year.

I work for a marketing firm here in Richardson called Minerva Consulting. I mostly write social media but I am also learning a lot about PR. My job is really fun and it’s exactly what I'm going to school for. A little about myself, I really love sports and animals. I've been a gymnast my entire life and I even lived in Romania where I trained for awhile. Now I am a cheerleader at UTD and I love it. I have a dachshund named Tootsie Roll and she is the best dog ever. If I didn't live in a small apartment I would have a whole band of wiener dogs J

I am a huge consumer of online media. Because of my job, I am on social media and the Internet all the time. Although I use social media a lot for work, I am not super active on my own social media. I really like to scroll through the newsfeed on Facebook and see what’s going on; however, I do not post on my own page often. I am most active on Instagram. I love to record what is going on in my life through photos. When I get home from work and school I really enjoy watching TV (I may have a slight addiction to Netflix.) My favorite show is The Walking Dead and I can't wait for the next season!

I’m looking forward to learning more about everyone!

  1. That is so cool that you trained as a gymnast. I think it's really amazing you were so committed that you trained in Romania! I have to completely agree with you on Facebook. I find myself addicted to surfing the news feed to see what other people post but I never post on people's wall. I hardly use it unless I'm looking on my news feed too!

  2. I agree with Pryanka that it is very cool to have a talent like that. I unfortunately do not know a lot of gymnasts, but Nastia Liukin lives really close to me, and I guess thanks to all the media exposure out there gymnastics has gotten a lot of exposure post olympics. I've moved on from Facebook to Reddit as my main source of media content, and have seen the PR landscape change as it focuses more on crowdsourcing, maybe something that interests you and your work!

  3. Hey Leah! It is so great to learn more about you. Spending time in Romania must have been amazing! I'm terrible about logging in to Social Media outlets and scanning them. But after our Theories class this past semester, I love using the TweetDeck app on my laptop to keep track of my favorite trends in a much simpler format. No, NOT the Kardashians; if they fell of the planet, I most likely wouldn't know unless KRLD reported on it. LOL
