Ice Breaker

Hello everybody, I am Whitney Worrell. This is my second year here at UTD and I will graduate in the spring of 2016 with a bachelors in EMAC. I have an extremely busy life, and when I am not attending classes I am at work, or out with my pups. I have work for DSW for two years now and am training to be a manger there. My current role in the store is as a trainer of new associates and new managers. When i'm not at work or at school I am outside either taking my pups to the dog park, or working out. My dogs and boyfriend are my life and my support system.

My likes are shopping, being outdoors, thrifting, and spending time with my pups.
My dislikes are that there aren't ever enough hours in the day to get everything done!

Fun Fact: I have made one of my pup's slightly “famous” on Instagram. Feel free to follow (maxdapper)

As far as how I consume media, interestingly enough as I get more emerged into the EMAC degree I have come to consume less media in my daily life. I have adopted a lifestyle where I only allow myself a certain amount of time to my media (other than for classes) so that I can focus. I get very distracted by media at times and when I do it is a downward spiral that I get sucked into. I have come to learn that I am somewhat more interested in the theory aspect of digital media and media as a whole, or at least at this point that is what I am most interested in.

  1. I was just thinking it's time I went out and got some new shoes again (apparently I had been way over my correct size) and my friend showed me DSW a few months ago. Great place! Best of luck climbing up the ladder there!

Found your pup and gave you both a follow as well, online fame must be fun!

Completely agree with your views on media and its theories being the most interesting part of it all. I just can't believe how dynamic the digital scene can be, and how looking back even 5 years things seem so ancient!

  2. I totally agree with you, media can consume you if you don't set boundaries upfront. As a matter of fact I was reading an ad the other day about how media affects everyone specially youngsters to the point that we see many of them stress-out and depress to the point of having suicidal thoughts.

  3. Very interesting isn't it? The more we learn about the fluidity of media entering and affecting our lives, the more we understand how much time we can allow it to actually have in our lives. It's all about how ready we are to receive the messages, I think. When we are ready, we may process media with an open mind, if we fear it or if we are anxious about it we may repel it and leave it for another time. With every class I take, there is more clarity.
In just the few semesters we have been here how much technology progresses? I feel education has that effect on us.

  4. Hi Whitney, nice to meet you again. It's good to have supporting people and animals in our lives. One of the things I like about my dogs is that they are always in a good mood and are always willing to listen. Unlike people they don't expect a lot back from us, as long as we keep there tummy happy they are happy. It's also good that you walk your dog, many people don't do that. I am sure he appreciates that.

  5. I completely understand having a busy schedule! I am curious about what kind of dogs you have as I have a little one myself. I respect your limits on when you engage in social media. I personally find myself mindlessly thumbing through facebook too many times a day!

    1. I have a tiny one named Max who is a toy aussie and a terrier mix, and a much larger one named Misha that is a germanshepherd and siberian husky mix! Max is the one with the instagram but Misha is featured often!

  7. You really have to watch yourself, I know I do. I'll get on the Internet just to look up information... two hours later... I forgot why I turned on my computer!

And, Netflix binging is a real problem! Sorry for making you use Netflix, but I tend to instill bad habits in my students!

  8. That's really impressive that you have limits for media time. I have such a hard time getting off my phone or computer. Your dog is so adorable! I'm one of those people who follows all the pet Instagram accounts.

Nice to meet you! Good luck in your classes.

I'm happy to have another class with you! I love hearing about your dogs! I have a wiener dog named Tootsie. We should get together for a doggy play date :) I'll have to come visit you at DSW soon, one of my favorite places!
