Alice, the Selfish Daughter

Once upon a time, in a far away land lived a king with his daughter and wife. They had plenty of gold, servants, land, and everything they wanted. The king and queen were great parents, they had worked really hard to raise their only daughter the best they could. They taught her manners, how to be kind, and nice to everyone in the village. The king always showed her how to rule with respect. However, there was one small problem, the daughter disagreed with a lot of values her father and mother tried to teach her.

“I love my dad deeply and respect him, however, I’m not so sure what I feel for my mother, she confided to her friend.” What she meant is that she didn’t love her mother as much as she loved her father. She had started to feel something that was not love or admiration, something called jealousy.

Whenever, the king was home the daughter, named Alice, wanted her father’s total attention and whenever he gave some to her mother, Alice was furious. Somehow she wanted her dad to herself.  After a while the king, noticed her problem and talked to his wife about sending her away for a few years to solve the problem. The queen said, “I feel very sad by your decision my dear, but I’m afraid you are right,” she agreed. So without saying anything else they packed her stuff and sent her away to a friend’s castle.

Time went by and the king and queen missed their daughter deeply, so they allowed her to come back. But they were wrong, the two years she was gone made her more jealous and bitter. She had time to plan how she was going to get rid her mom, so she could have her dad all to herself. “There will be no more sharing,” she thought.  “Once she is gone I will be the only one in my dad’s heart.” She said while brushing her hair in front of the mirror.

Alice pretended to be the nice and kind young woman her parents had dreamed, therefore first thing in the morning went to her mom’s room to take her breakfast, “good morning mother,” she said. The queen looked at her in the eyes and said, “good morning dear, thank you so much.” The queen took a sip out of her orange juice, which was poisoned by her daughter. Immediately she started to feel bad and called her servants for help.

The servants immediately notified the king and in an attempt to save her life made her vomit the poison. Luckily she had only taken a small amount of the juice, the king was able to save the queen’s life. “I can’t believe our only daughter has caused such horrific act,” said the king. “From now on she is deserted from our land. I can’ t live with her or trust her anymore,” said the queen.

“I am your only daughter, you are my parents, you can’t do this to me, please, don’t!” begged Alice. But it was too late, her parents could not allow her to stay because she was evil and hated her mother.

No one ever heard from Alice. Time went by and the queen and king continued to work hard, treated everyone with respect and kindness, and everyone in their castle gave them the love and respect their daughter couldn’t. Therefore, they lived happily ever after with the people they loved.

  1. That got dark pretty fast. It was really clear which person (from the options in the book) you were focusing on. Nice job!
