How Media Portrays Women

Women play a big role in this world, they serve as companions, friends, and most importantly give life. They also inspire men to accomplish dreams and goals. Without them this world would not be the same, therefore I think it’s important to give them more credit than what the media gives them.

The media portrays women as a sex symbol and focuses all the attention on their beauty not intelligence. That’s why is important for parents should educate their children by making them aware of the tricks of media and advertisements. Parents have forgotten how to teach their children in regards to what’s real and unreal on Advertisement, probably because they are too busy  or tired to do so. It’s crucial for this new generation to grow up appreciation women for their qualities not physical features.

It may be difficult to understand that if it wasn’t for a woman most men would not be successful in life because they not only serve as wives but also as mothers. Most mothers protect and encourage their children to accomplish their dreams. Also, they give meaning to a man’s life. Most men who do not have a girlfriend or a wife simply are conformed with the basic element to survive. Therefore, I believe, men and women should be portrayed by the media with equality. The media should focus on all the qualities of a woman not just their “sexiness,” because that’s is not the only quality they have.

The way the media portrays women prevents cooperation among them and instead creates competition. Women judge each other, more than men judge them. I have seen and heard the harsh comments women make about each other’s appearance. If women were to work together on making changes to the way society views them it would be easier for them to accept and love themselves the way they are. They should not be enemies, their only enemy should be the media for portraying them as sexy, not smart.

  1. Very true point about how women have such a large impact on the lives of men. If we begin to see a better portrayal of women in the media, I'm sure more of us will realize this fact!

  2. I agree with you that the way that women are portrayed is turning them against each other. It is always a competition based on who gets the guy or who is more attractive. I think that women need to come together in order to put an end to these stereotypes. Because if men see women treating each other badly, it makes them feel like it is okay to treat them badly too.

  3. I think that the most important element to this whole issue is family. The media impact is obvious but part of being a parent is helping your children through the dangers that they will face in life.
